اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ ثَوَابَهُ لِوَالِدَيَّ وَتَقَبَّلْهُ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Allahummaj'al thawabahu liwalidayya wa taqabbalhu minna innaka Antas-Sami'ul-'Alim
O Allah, grant its reward to my parents, and accept it from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
A man asked the Prophet ﷺ: "My mother has died. Will she benefit if I give charity on her behalf?" He said: "Yes." From this, scholars confirmed that charity, Quran recitation, Hajj, fasting, and du'a can all be dedicated to deceased parents. The addition of "taqabbalhu minna" echoes Ibrahim and Isma'il's du'a while building the Ka'bah — a reminder that the deed is not the hard part, acceptance is. Every good deed you do can be gifted to your parents. They are gone, but their account is not closed — you are their lifeline to ongoing reward.
