اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى
Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadhal-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-'amali ma tarda
O Allah, we ask You in this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that are pleasing to You.
Part of the comprehensive travel du'a narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar (RA) in Sahih Muslim. The Prophet ﷺ would say this after mounting his ride and saying the takbir three times. Travel was historically dangerous — bandits, harsh terrain, loneliness — and the Prophet ﷺ asked not for safety first but for birr (righteousness) and taqwa (God-consciousness). The priorities are telling: a journey where you sin is worse than a journey where you suffer. Ask that your travel serves a righteous purpose and that every deed on the road pleases Allah.
