O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Magnificent Throne, our Lord and Lord of everything, Splitter of the seed and the date-stone, Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Criterion. I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything whose forelock You hold.
Ali (RA) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ would say this when going to bed. The phrase "whose forelock You hold" means Allah has absolute control over every creature — He holds them by the front of their head like a rider holds the reins of a horse. Nothing can harm you without His permission. Sleep under that protection.
