Allahumma inni aslamtu wajhi ilayka wa fawwadtu amri ilayka wa alja'tu dhahri ilayka raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayk
O Allah, I submit my face to You, entrust my affairs to You, and lean my back against You, out of desire for and fear of You.
Three physical metaphors of surrender: face (identity and direction), affairs (decisions and outcomes), back (support and safety). "Raghbatan wa rahbatan" — out of both desire and fear. Not just hoping for Allah's reward, and not just fearing His punishment — both simultaneously. The healthy believer lives between hope and fear, even in the last moments before sleep.
