Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi kafani wa awani wa at'amani wa saqani, walladhi manna 'alayya fa-afdal, walladhi a'tani fa-ajzal. Alhamdu lillahi 'ala kulli hal
Praise be to Allah who sufficed me, sheltered me, fed me, and gave me drink. Who bestowed His favor upon me and gave generously. Praise be to Allah in every condition.
A bedtime du'a of gratitude. Before sleep, you count the day's blessings: sufficiency (kafani — I had enough), shelter (awani — I have a roof), food (at'amani — my stomach is full), drink (saqani — I am not thirsty). Then the broader acknowledgment: He gave abundantly and generously. It is the gratitude journal of the Prophet ﷺ, spoken nightly before unconsciousness takes over.
