Allahummaj'alni qurrata 'aynin liwalidayya wajma' bayni wa baynahuma fil-Firdawsil-A'la
O Allah, make me the coolness of my parents' eyes, and unite me with them in the highest Paradise.
The Quran teaches parents to ask for "qurrata a'yun" (coolness of the eyes — the deepest joy) from their children. This du'a flips the perspective: the child asks to BE that source of comfort, then extends the bond beyond this life by asking to be reunited in Al-Firdaws — the highest level of Paradise. It is one thing for your parents to hope you bring them joy; it is another for you to actively ask Allah to make you that joy. The reunion request reflects the believer's greatest hope: that family bonds, the truest worldly joy, will continue eternally in the Hereafter, elevated to a state beyond anything experienced in this life.
