O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of everything, I bear witness that there is no deity except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of myself and from the evil of Shaytan and his traps.
The Prophet ﷺ taught Abu Bakr (RA) to say this every morning, evening, and when going to bed. "Shirkihi" — the traps of Shaytan that lead to associating partners with Allah. The du'a names two enemies: your own nafs (self) and the Shaytan. One is internal, one is external — and you need protection from both.
