Allahumma-hdini wa saddidni. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda was-sadad, wadhkur bil-huda hidayatakat-tariq, wa bis-sadadi sadadad-sahm
O Allah, guide me and keep me straight. O Allah, I ask You for guidance and straightness — and when you think of guidance, think of the guidance of the road, and when you think of straightness, think of the straightness of the arrow.
Ali (RA) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ taught him this du'a and explained its meaning through two vivid metaphors. Hidayah is like finding the right road — knowing which path leads to your destination. Saddad is like the straightness of an arrow — moving on that path without veering left or right. Many people know the right path but wander off it. Others walk straight but on the wrong road. This du'a asks for both: the correct direction and the discipline to stay on course. It is especially powerful for moments of confusion or temptation.
