أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
Astaghfirullahal-ladhi la ilaha illa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyumu wa atubu ilayh
I seek the forgiveness of Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever says this, Allah will forgive him even if he fled from battle." Fleeing from battle was considered one of the gravest sins in Islam — one of the seven destructive sins. Yet this du'a covers even that. The two Names of Allah chosen — Al-Hayy (the Ever-Living) and Al-Qayyum (the Self-Sustaining) — appear together in Ayatul Kursi and are said to be the Greatest Name of Allah.
