O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight, light in my hearing, light on my right, light on my left, light above me, light below me, light in front of me, light behind me, and grant me light.
The Prophet ﷺ made this du'a when walking to Fajr prayer in the darkness before dawn. He asked for light — nur — in every direction and faculty. Light in the heart (understanding), light in the eyes (perception), light in the ears (discernment), and light surrounding you from all directions. When you are made of light, darkness cannot touch you — physical or spiritual. It is the du'a of someone who refuses to walk in the dark.
