الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur
All praise is due to Allah, who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.
This is the first thing the Prophet ﷺ would say upon waking up. Sleep is considered a minor death — the soul is taken and returned each night. Waking up is thus a daily resurrection and a reminder of the greater resurrection to come.
Related Du'as
رَبِّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ
My Lord, praise is Yours — filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever else You wish beyond that.
Sahihسُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ
Glory and praise be to You, O Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.
Sahihاللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ قَيِّمُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ الْحَقُّ وَوَعْدُكَ حَقٌّ وَلِقَاؤُكَ حَقٌّ وَقَوْلُكَ حَقٌّ وَالْجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ وَالنَّبِيُّونَ حَقٌّ وَمُحَمَّدٌ حَقٌّ وَالسَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ وَإِلَيْكَ حَاكَمْتُ فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
O Allah, praise is Yours. You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and all within them. Praise is Yours. You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all within them. Praise is Yours. You are the Truth, Your promise is true, the meeting with You is true, Your word is true, Paradise is true, the Fire is true, the Prophets are true, Muhammad is true, and the Hour is true. O Allah, to You I have submitted, in You I have believed, upon You I have relied, to You I have turned in repentance, by You I have argued, and to You I have referred for judgement. So forgive me for what I have sent ahead and what I have left behind, what I have concealed and what I have made public. You are the One who brings forward and the One who puts back. There is no god but You.
Sahihالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ
All praise is due to Allah in every condition.
