Distress & Anxiety

O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help. Set right all my affairs for me, and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye.

HasanAt-Tirmidhi 3524, Al-Hakim 1/509

Anas (RA) said: When any matter would distress the Prophet ﷺ, he would say this. It combines two of the Greatest Names of Allah — Al-Hayy (the Ever-Living who never dies) and Al-Qayyum (the Self-Sustaining who sustains everything). The second half — "set right all my affairs and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye" — is the most desperate admission of human fragility. In the time it takes to blink, you could make a decision that ruins everything. This du'a asks the One who never sleeps and never tires to never let go of you, not even for a fraction of a second.
