O Allah, do not make our calamity in our religion, and do not make this world our greatest concern or the extent of our knowledge.

HasanAt-Tirmidhi 3502

Three categories of loss, ranked by severity: (1) Loss in religion — the worst, because it follows you to the Hereafter; (2) Making dunya your biggest concern — meaning your anxiety is always about worldly things; (3) Making dunya the limit of your knowledge — knowing only worldly matters and nothing of the akhirah. Financial loss heals. Health recovers. But losing your deen is the real calamity.
